Introduction
====================

Just a quick note to tell you how this newsletter is
organized. The focus of this newsletter isn't just
creating "zero balances", it is more about changing our
thinking.

I know that in my life, I got into debt because
I had to have things TODAY. When it came time to pay my
bills, I only paid the minimum amount. Why?? Sure I was
in college, but I had a job that provided enough money to
cover my needs. The problem was, that as I developed poor
spending habits by using my credit cards, those habits
infiltrated every part of my life. I didn't have to make
paying bills a priority, it could always wait, I would use
the money in my bank account for other things.

This is what many of us have done, now the more responsible
people that we are now, are stuck with the bill.

That is where this newsletter comes in. Each issue will
contain 3 articles, and sometimes an introduction like this
one. The first will be targeted towards the psychological
impacts of debt. The second will be a useful article that
will help us get out of debt. The third will be a weekly
update on my progress on getting out of debt.

Thank you for your support, and I hope we are all debt free
by 2003!! -Jason Dugan

Your First Step
====================

The first step in getting out of debt is to know where you
stand. To do this, you will need several things.

First, gather ALL of your unsecured debt statements. This
can be a very painful thing. Often times, we tell ourselves
that we aren't as bad off as we think. YOU HAVE TO FACE
YOUR DEBT HEAD ON!

Know what you owe!

Second, obtain a copy of your credit report. As we get out
of debt, we must focus on restoring our credit. A copy
of your credit report will tell you who is currently
reporting your late and missed payments to the credit
agencies. These will be the ones that you should get caught
up with first. Also, your credit report will show you
anything that has been misreported about you. Getting this
corrected can help your credit score.

Visit the link below to obtain a FREE copy of your credit
report. You will have to sign up for a free trial of the
credit check monitoring service, but be sure to cancel
it, or else they will charge you. If they do charge you,
call them and they will give you a refund (that's exactly
what happened to me!)

Stay tuned...next week, "Who do I pay first?"

7 Organizing Secrets of Successful People
====================

What is your definition of success? At the very least,
you probably desire a certain amount of free time and
money. Getting organized will help you be successful,
however you define it.

1. Control your time instead of letting it control you.
Have a plan every day. Make a to-do list. You'll
accomplish more.

2. Delegate repetitive tasks to employees and family
members. Outsource. Pay or barter to have others
do what you don't do well (or don't want to do).

3. Set goals and priorities. Write them down. Post
them. Focus on them daily. continually ask yourself,
"Is this the best use of my time right now?"

4. Batch activities. Spending a specific amount of time
on like activities is more of a time saver than flitting
back and forth between unrelated tasks.

5. Overcome paper overload. Set up a simple filing
system. Process your paper daily.

6. Have a place for everything. Keep like things
together. De-clutter. Move excess stuff out of your life.

7. Live with a budget. Spend both time and money wisely
so you'll have plenty of each.

Credit Repair For Beginners
====================

Anytime you apply for a loan with any type of lending
institution your credit report comes into the picture. This
report is an overview of your credit history that contains
past and current accounts, payment history, and balances.
The credit report is a primary tool used by lenders to
determine the level of risk they take when extending you
credit.

For many people, the credit report is just a formality. But
for over 65% of the population, it can mean the decline of
their loan application. Why? Because their report shows
negative, misleading or inaccurate entries.

Viewing Your Credit Report

Practically no one reviews their credit report as often as
they should. If you have not read yours within the last
year, it is strongly advised that you do so now. (If you
want a FREE copy of your credit report, click the link at the
top of this newsletter)

Simply contact your local credit bureau, and request that a
copy of your credit report be mailed to you. You can find
agencies in the yellow pages of your local phonebook listed
under "credit bureau." There is normally a small charge for
generating and mailing you the report.

Once you receive the document, review it carefully. Look
for negative, misleading, or inaccurate information. If you
find entries like these, you have the full right to dispute
them and have them corrected or removed.

Repairing Your Credit

The process of changing your credit history is often
referred to as "credit repair." To start, write a letter to
the credit bureau stating one discrepancy in your report.
(Your credit-reporting agency will correct only ONE item at
a time.) Request that they investigate the entry and provide
you with proof of its accuracy. Do the same with each
additional incorrect or negative item.

Should the bureau not be able to prove that the entry is
accurate, it will be removed from your report. Likewise, if
the agency is unable to prove the entry within a
"reasonable" amount of time, it will be removed.

Because these agencies are extremely busy, it is always wise
to correspond with credit bureaus via registered mail,
return receipt requested. This service is available from
your local post office.

In addition to repairing actual entries to your report, you
can also improve it by:

* maintaining your employment and residence status for at
least TWO years.

* not carrying your credit card balances near, at, or over
the credit limit.

* paying your minimum payments on time and in full, as
required by your monthly statement.

Each of these actions proves stability - something lenders
specifically look for on all applications.

Often times, your credit report can be greatly improved
simply by disputing items that are misrepresented or
misleading. With a little attention and legwork, you might
be able to significantly increase your chances of getting a
loan.

Jason's Corner
====================

Hello friends,

This is the second edition of the "Debt Free By 2003"
newsletter. It seems that many people out there are in
the same situation as me. I am in the process of creating
a discussion forum where the subscribers of this
newsletter can meet and greet. I will probably be
announcing it next week!

Well, we're almost there! My wife and I have almost
accomplished one of our goals. I have been behind on her
engagement ring payments and it has been weighing me down.
We made three payments today and only have one more to go!!

Last week I told you that we added everything up, and came
up with a total of my debt. This was square one. Now,
we are making smaller goals to achieve our larger goal,
becoming debt free. Paying the ring off is one of our
first goals, and we are almost there.

What are some of your goals? Try to come up with some very
small goals that will put you one step closer to debt
freedom. It can be something as simple as not spending
as much money eating out, or cutting sodas. You may even
decide to put those credit cards away and start living on
cash.

This week, set a goal and accomplish it. You can email me
your stories to debtfreefor2003@yahoo.com , I would love
to hear from you!

Until next week,

Jason Dugan
